Great Lakes Regional Chili, Inc is a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization that holds chili cook-offs to benefit charities or other nonprofit organizations. Winners of the Great Lakes Regional Chili, Inc cook-offs qualify to compete at the International Chili Society (ICS) World's Championship Chili Cook-off. The ICS is the largest food contest, festival organization in the world!
Great Lakes Regional Chili, Inc is very proud that since 1996 have raised over $295,000 for charities and nonprofit organizations here in Southeast Michigan.
Charities who have received at least $5,000 include:
Make a Wish Foundation, The Rainbow Connection, Plymouth Salvation Army, Bridgepoint, Michigan Youth Soccer Association, Penrickton Center for Blind Children and Habitat for Humanity.
1985 - Founders Ken & Annette Horn began competing at Chili Cookoffs.
1996 - Ken & Annette decided to bring a chili cookoff to downtown Plymouth. The first cookoff raised $4,000 for charity but that was just the beginning.
1999 - Great Lakes Regional Chili, Inc was formed as a 501(c) 3 organization. Today the annual event on the first or second Sunday in October in Plymouth attracts 20,000 chili and motorcycle fans.
2014 - Founders Ken & Annette Horn retire from GLCC after 18 years of dedicated service!
GLRC, Inc. has three board of directors consisting of a President, Vice-President and a Treasurer. The board is a volunteer, unpaid board.
